Hello, Graphic Art People! I'm sure many of us are involved in using our computers to complete digital art pieces. There are many different softwares which help us to achieve this. So which software do you use? Is it good? Do you recommend it? Share your opinions with us! ----------------------------------------- I'll start. I'm currently using PS CS5. I'm not really good at digital art so I cant really give much comments. However, I will say that PS is a really good software and can assist you in completing almost any kinds of digital art ( if you know how to use it of course ) That's all from me! It's your turn to share. Don't just read this post, go on and pARTicipate! in the thread discussion too!

I've used several before, but currently using Photoshop CS3. Haven designed for a loong time until the creation of this forum...so probably need some time to relearn certain skills.

Photoshop CS5.
For anyone looking for an alternative, Paint Shop Pro has also been known to be very effective.

I'm an avid Paint Shop Pro user. ♥
My current list of programs that I use are: Adobe Illustrator CS5, Adobe Photoshop CS5, GIMP 2, Macromedia Fireworks 8, and Paint Shop Pro X2. I plan on getting more, as well, because I wish to expand my horizons and become accustomed to all types of graphic programs. (Which means, I'll be venturing into 3D and animated programs soon.)

Actually, I've always wondered. What are the main differences between Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro? I wondered for the longest time, too.. Because, I learned Paint Shop Pro first. (Which is considered an 'at home' program.. Whereas Photoshop is considered to be a more professional program.) They're extremely similar, but not the same. Paint Shop Pro is easier to work with, in my honest opinion. And it's more for editing images than web design. Not to mention, it's simply cheaper. Photoshop has more tools, however, and is better for high tech designs, even though it is a lot more expensive. Those are the main differences that I've found, but I'm sure there are more.

In terms of user friendliness and the speed at which one can learn how to use them, do you think Photoshop or PSP would fare better? Because I have been hearing good things about each program from its various advocates, but have never actually compared them.

Hmm. Well, I find Paint Shop Pro to be more user-friendly because it's less confusing to work with in the beginning. I would rate it as a 9 on a scale from 1-10.. Photoshop, I would rate as a 6. But - of course - this is only my opinion.

Interesting. Perhaps its time for me to pay closer attention to other graphical softwares then.

Just read that you use Fireworks and GIMP. Have you ever used them for designing?

Just read that you use Fireworks and GIMP. Have you ever used them for designing? I've been using Fireworks for four years now, so that's a yes. As for GIMP, I'm still exploring it. I've only recently downloaded it and have only used the surface of things. I'm trying to find time to delve deeper into the program.. So, I haven't used it for designing all that much. Maybe an effect here and there.
